Meet Louise Sackett
Trained as a figurative painter/printmaker, Louise Sackett approaches all her work from a painter’s point of view. Light and composition take center stage. Her preferred style is impressionist realism, with the punctuation of personal statements with the brush, pencil or stick. In this day of instant photos and digital art, Louise finds the mark of the artist to be more important than ever. Therefore, each of her creations celebrates rather than hides obvious brush and pencil strokes. The immediacy of the visible artist’s touch is as important to her as is the style.
Where Her Style Came to Light
Most of Louise’s work has to do with places visited, people she has known, or the things that surround her daily existence. Her current preferred media are: oils, pastel and some acrylic multimedia.
Louise was born in Massachusetts and attended the Worcester Art Museum School. While living in California, she earned a BA in graphic communication (emphasis printmaking) from San Diego State University and a Master of Science, Instructional Technology from National University in San Diego. Louise then worked as a digital artist for more than 25 years, creating training for the Navy.

She has been an exhibiting member of the Clairemont Art Guild, San Diego Pastel Society, Black Range Painters and Fine Line Artists. Louise has also showed independently in COAL gallery shows (Carlsbad Oceanside Art Gallery) Carlsbad CA, the Bonita Museum Art Show, Bonita CA, Gallery 21, Balbao Park, San Diego CA, the Torrey Pines Plein Air Festival, San Diego CA, most recently at Clifton AZ's Coronado Gallery and the Las Cruces Museum of Art, plus numerous other Southern California venues. In 2015 she was chosen as an exhibiting artist in the Colors of Copper Show, Coronado Gallery, Clifton AZ, and as such invited to show in November 2016 in France.
Her work is held in private collections in Maine, New Hampshire, Washington, Colorado, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Iowa, Texas, New Mexico and California. She also has her work on display at the Toas Blue Gallery in New Mexico and River’s Edge Gallery in Texas.
An Involved Member of The Art Community
She has increased her abilities via workshops from such well-known artists as; David Leffel, Dianna Ponting, Sally Strand, Cathey Cadieux, Phil Starke, Greg LaRock, and many others. Louise teaches art via private arrangement and an annual pastel workshop held in her Wind Canyon Studio.
She is a member of the Tucson Pastel Society, Tucson Plein Air Society, New Mexico Plein Air Painters, New Mexico Pastel Society, Black Range Painters, OPS(Outdoor Painters Society), and International Plein Air Painters Society (IPAP). She has won numerous first place awards and was IPAP’s featured artist for January 2012.
